Batali and banks..

Batali just opened his new restaurant Lupa here in Hong Kong.  I actually ate there Sunday and saw the man/the myth/ the legend in the kitchen.  It was pretty cool.  I was way too nervous to say anything but later regretted it.  I am definitely going to try to speak to him tonight at the Lupa Grand Opening.

You see, I love/admire Batali.  Personally I think he's a genius.  I like his food but the business empire he has built is inspiring.  For example, the way Eataly has completely redefined a once unremarkable (dare I say unattractive) stretch of real estate is amazing.

That said, some of my banker friends are still a little Batali-battered.  Recall, he made that annoying comment last year bashing bankers comparing them to the likes of Stalin/ Hitler.  Pretty random and he later apologized.  I thought the comments were too stupid to even recognize.  That said, thankfully not everybody agrees.  Bank stocks actually did very well last night and led the market.  We're going to start seeing them report and we're seeing more and more analysts recommend banking stocks.    So maybe if I meet Mario tonight and it comes up  - I can concede 'I'm a banker'.    I'm hopeful Banks and Batali get along fine.
