Wow it's been a hectic week. It was worth it though. I'm actually hoping my friends at Heirloom will let me work their very popular Tacos 'n Tequila Tuesdays on an ongoing basis. Mostly because I love being in the kitchen (especially there) but timely as well because Mexican food is hot (literally). Did you know Chipotle Mexican Grill was up 60% last year (easily catapulting its way into 2011's list of best performing stocks)? And it's tracking to replicate it this year if things continue. Pretty insane as people are paying a pretty peso to own this name - nearly 50x the company's annual earnings. That said, they're not the only ones gaining from this burrito binge. Yum Brands just reported a great earnings helped by Taco Bell.
Again, what a shame that I never explored these stocks. Mexican food has been on a cultish surge and most of us indulged in it. However, while we happily gorged on gorditas, we forgot to profit from it. Unless of course you call rising numbers on the scale as profiting. Seriously there is an important lesson to be learned from this. When you see brands going viral (Lululemon, Apple are good examples), be the discerning shopper that you are and consider being an owner. It will require some work but it's worth it.
Gotta wrap it up here because I risk sounding preachy and I have no right to be lecturing today. I missed the much anticipated Shopbop Friends and Family sale. Pretty inexcusable as I had plenty of time to shop but I just procrastinated. That said, if shopbop were to ever become a publicly listed company, I will certainly not forget to have a very serious browse.
